Public land gifted and developed for public education, should not be disposed of without proper scrutiny or community consent.
We are calling for:
Elmwood belongs to the people of Fife. We intend to keep it that way.
Save Elmwood is a community campaign to stop the demolition and sale of Elmwood Campus in Cupar.
For over 70 years, Elmwood has been a public educational asset serving Fife. Built on land originally owned by Fife Council, the campus grew into a nationally respected centre for agriculture, horticulture, animal care and land-based skills. At its height, it supported thousands of learners and hundreds of jobs, with the majority of students coming from Fife itself.
Now it is being dismantled.
Courses have been withdrawn. Buildings have closed. Staff and students have gone. Equipment has been stripped out. Students who once studied locally are now expected to travel across Scotland or give up entirely. We understand there are plans to demolish the buildings and sell the land for housing.
North East Fife needs local further and higher education. We face high living costs, rural isolation and significant levels of family poverty. Scotland’s rural economy depends on skilled workers in agriculture, animal care, forestry and land management. Employers are already struggling to recruit. Closing Elmwood makes no economic or social sense.
